PITTSBURGH, November 3, 2004 – The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has named Diana Block vice president and general manager, effective immediately. This position expands her responsibility to all day-to-day business operations for the paper, including sales and marketing and interactive media. She will continue to have responsibility for circulation, production and labor relations, areas that reported to her in her previous role as vice president – operations.
David Beihoff will remain president of the Post-Gazette, focusing on strategic planning and new product development and overseeing finance. Beihoff is also vice president – newspapers for Block Communications, Inc., the Post-Gazette’s parent company.
"Diana has really proven herself as a leader within the company and I expect her contribution to be even stronger in her new role," President David Beihoff said.
Diana Block is the great-granddaughter of Paul Block, who first published the Post-Gazette in 1927, and the granddaughter of William Block Sr., who retired in 2001 as chairman of the newspaper. Her father is William Block Jr., Chairman of Block Communications, Inc.
Block received her bachelor’s degree in English from Yale University and holds master’s degrees in English from the University of Virginia and business administration from Carnegie Mellon University.
