The Venango County coroner's office identified the boater who drowned Friday night when his canoe capsized as Kevin Wade, 42 of Valencia, Butler County.

Wade and a second man fell out of their canoe in a set of rapids on the Allegheny River about 8 p.m. just north of Emlenton, near the Dotty's Eddy area in Scrubgrass.

The second man swam to shore.

Witnesses said Wade had removed his life jacket just before the canoe capsized in a set of rapids.
