A New Kensington teen was struck by a car and dragged outside a skateboard park in Tarentum yesterday.
Dave Thomas, 19, was injured when the car backed into him at about 8:15 p.m. yesterday.
Mr. Thomas had been using the park when he was standing near the entrance at the corner of First Avenue and Bridge Street and the car backed into him. The vehicle dragged him about 150 feet before he fell off, Tarentum police Sgt. Brandon Miller said.
Joseph Gshinsky, 20, of Pittsburgh, is suspected of having been the driver who sped away from the scene.
Police in East Deer pulled him over about two miles away in that township within minutes of the incident.
Mr. Gshinsky was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment, drunken driving, aggravated assault while driving drunk, underage drinking, fleeing and attempting to elude police, and several traffic violations.
He is being held on 10 percent of his $5,000 bail in the Allegheny County Jail, pending a preliminary hearing May 16 before District Judge Carolyn Bengel in Natrona.
Mr. Thomas was reported in fair condition by Allegheny General Hospital.
