Dukes 4th seed in A-10 tennis event

Fourth-seeded Duquesne (16-5) has a first-round bye and will meet the winner of this morning's No. 5 St. Bonaventure-No. 12 Fordham match at 2 p.m. at Club 4 Life in Monroeville.

The Atlantic 10 men's tournament continues tomorrow with the final Sunday.

Top-seed George Washington, No. 2 Xavier and No. 3 and defending champion Charlotte also have first-round byes. No. 6 Richmond has won four of the past six team titles. Duquesne's highest seed was third in 1999 and its best finish was third in 2003.

The Dukes are led in singles by No. 1 Michael Ortega (13-14) and No. 2 Alex Mast (13-15), a transfer from Penn State. The No. 1 doubles team of Steve Herchko, a freshman from North Hills, and Jeremy McClelland is 14-5. The No. 2 team of Ortega and Mikhel Rafner is 13-13.
