Riverview High School graduate David Kaye is off to a great start in his freshman season with the University of Pittsburgh baseball team.
Kaye, a freshman right-handed pitcher, has a 1.01 earned run average in 15 relief appearances. Kaye has recorded 24 strikeouts, while walking only seven batters, in 35.3 innings of work. He also has one save.
Central Catholic graduate John Hess, a two-year starter on the Allegheny College baseball team, is hitting .364 with 17 runs scored, six doubles, and 11 runs batted in.
Hess is a sophomore member of the Gators starting pitching rotation and also plays in the outfield.
On the mound, Hess is 3-1 in six starts for the Gators. He has a 7.30 earned run average and 18 strikeouts in 24.6 innings pitched.
The California University of Pennsylvania baseball team is being powered by a Penn-Trafford battery.
Penn-Trafford High School graduates Jay Mitaly and Stephen Hermann are a pair of junior starters for the Vulcans. Mitaly is a right-handed pitcher and Hermann is a catcher.
Hermann is hitting .296 with 21 runs scored, 10 doubles, five home runs and 26 RBIs.
Mitaly is 3-1 with a 5.86 earned run average in six appearances, including five starts. Mitaly also has a save in his only relief appearance.
Hempfield Area High School graduates Rachel Komarinski and Courtney Buhl, Gateway grad Jenna Bealko, and Greensburg Salem graduate April Hawkey have helped the St. Vincent College softball team to a 15-9 record.
Komarinski, a junior outfielder/catcher, is hitting .333 with 15 runs scored, three home runs and 15 RBIs. Buhl, a freshman infielder, is hitting .294 with 10 RBIs. Bealko, a junior second baseman/outfielder, is hitting .273 with 11 runs scored and 11 RBIs. Hawkey, a senior outfielder, is hitting .338 with 13 runs scored.
