Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Doug Davis said he has been pronounced cancer free after a sophisticated test showed no spread of the disease.

Davis said he got the news from surgeon Dr. Bob Evani, who removed the pitcher's cancerous thyroid gland April 10.

"The cancer did not spread and it will not spread from here on out," Davis said yesterday.

He had a "nuclear CT scan," which would detect any spread of the disease.

"I shook Dr. Evani's hand, told him what a great job he did and what a great doctor he is and just was grateful," Davis said. "I hugged my fiancee and we got out of there, because nobody likes to stay in the doctor's office more than they have to."

The cancer was discovered before the season began but Davis had two starts before having the surgery.

Reigning NL MVP Jimmy Rollins will rejoin Philadelphia today in San Francisco after missing a month with a sprained left ankle. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said he will watch Rollins warm up and could put his star shortstop back in the lineup immediately.

Toronto placed shortstops David Eckstein and John McDonald on the 15-day disabled list, two days after both were injured in a loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Utilityman Joe Inglett was promoted from Class AAA Syracuse, with another roster move likely before today's game at Cleveland.

Atlanta reliever Peter Moylan will miss the rest of the season after having elbow-ligament replacement surgery. Dr. James Andrews operated on Moylan's right elbow in Birmingham, Ala.

Washington catcher Paul Lo Duca will be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a broken right hand.
