Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Police arrested a Crafton Heights man yesterday on charges that he stabbed his ex-girlfriend at his home hours before.

The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery. She was listed in critical condition, police said.

Police were called around 7:50 a.m. by the suspect, William Broadus, who claimed to have stabbed and killed his girlfriend at his residence on Crafton Boulevard, Pittsburgh homicide Lt. Kevin Kraus said in a news release.

Officers responded to the residence and found a woman lying on the floor of the basement. She was bleeding profusely from wounds of the upper chest and neck, police said.

Mr. Broadus, 26, fled before police arrived, but officers found him later on Herschel Street in Elliott, where he was taken into custody.

He was awaiting arraignment yesterday on charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault, police said.
