Cybertainment: You are now entering 'The Writers Room'
Thursday, June 26, 2008

COMEDY FANS WILL WANT TO MAKE AN ONLINE STOP AT "THE WRITERS ROOM," a 10-part Web series about a group of writers who work on a late-night TV show.

"The Writers Room" takes viewers behind the scenes in well-written, edgy six-minute episodes reminiscent of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" for a very inside look at how the creative process works -- or in this case, malfunctions.

Its credibility is partly thanks to its ensemble -- real-life comedy writers and show runners themselves, and veterans of A-list comedy series like "Seinfeld," "Curb Your Enthusiasm, "The Gilmore Girls," "Larry Sanders," "Malcolm in the Middle," "Mystery Science Theatre 3000" and others.

Comedian/actor Kevin Pollak plays the show host, who spends a lot of his time berating staffers by phone. All of them have issues and baggage, and the ensemble turns the process of comedy writing into something that's often painful to watch, but it's still funny in its own neurotic way. The main set is a claustrophobic conference room littered with empty drinking cups and a signature dead plant.

"The Writers Room" is produced by Stun Creative and distributed by Sony Pictures Television. The series will be available on several sites -- Crackle, YouTube, AOL Video, Hulu and Verizon Wireless' V Cast Video, or through the Stun Creative site.

Bob Bruno, a retired programmer who once worked at New York stations WNEW-AM and WOR-AM, created The Best of Everything for the musically underserved older online audience.
