Same people, different venue. That's how last Saturday's preview dinner party at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg played out for a number of the guests.
The opening of the exhibition, "Painting in the United States," on view through Oct. 19, was followed a mere 24 hours later by an opening celebration at the Frick. Factor in that both exhibitions tie in with the 55th Carnegie International at the Carnegie Museum of Art, and you've created a nirvana for the area's fine arts enthusiasts.
Just the thought heightened the party mood at the Westmoreland institution where CEO/director Judith O'Toole enthusiastically welcomed her counterparts -- Richard Armstrong of the Carnegie and the Frick's Bill Bodine -- heaped thanks on all who had lent support to this effort, and singled out her curator, Barbara Jones, for a special award -- a Gold Medal as Distinguished Curator from the museum's Westmoreland Society. There was a champagne toast, too, for the Post-Gazette's Bill Wade, whose photo exhibit in an adjacent gallery runs through Aug. 24.
Clinking glasses and feasting on the fare from Vallozzi's in Greensburg were board president Bruce Wolf with Sheryl, Barbara Nakles, Jane Arkus, Joe and Molly Walton, Angeles and Tey Stiteler, Harley Trice, Chuck and Trudy Booth, Graham Shearing, David and Brenda Roger, Jim and Ellen Kopelman, Lisa Kuzma, and Jack and Anne Robertshaw.
