Speedminton combines elements of tennis, badminton and racquetball.
Get addicted to speed -- the kind that burns calories legally and can be done anywhere. It's the new game catching on across the country called "Speedminton." According to a spokesperson, "Speedminton is a high-energy, addictive game combining the best dimensions of tennis, badminton and racquetball." It's easy to learn, so no matter what your age, if you can stand and hold a racket, you can play.

The game was developed in Germany six years ago and has been compared to Ultimate Frisbee in its popularity. For the complete rules, go to www.speedmintonusa.com/Rules.15.0.htm.

Each player defends his square by hitting the speeder, which looks like a badminton birdie, into the other player's square. The rackets are lightweight, making them easy for small children and older adults to handle.

You determine the area of play and whether or not to use a net, which makes it ideal for the beach, back yard or even the basement. The glow-in-the-dark speeders even make it possible to play at night. Why sleep when you can speed? Speedminton retails for $29.95 and can be purchased online at www.speedminton.com or by calling 1-877-225-7275. Dick's Sporting Goods carries the equipment.
