Folk and jazz fans who can't be at this weekend's Newport Folk Festival and next weekend's JVC Jazz Festival Newport can tune it in virtually.
NPR will webcast and broadcast four days worth of performances from the two influential music festivals. The shows will be streamed live and some will be archived on NPR's site. Several will also be available in podcast form.
This weekend, 10 performances from the Newport Folk Festival will stream live Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Performers include: Richie Havens, the pioneering folk performer who's back at the festival after 17 years, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, She & Him (M. Ward and actress Zooey Deschanel), along with webcasts of sets by Gillian Welch, Steve Earle and Alison Moorer, Calexico, Jakob Dylan of the Wallflowers, Cowboy Junkies and Brandy Carlile.
Next weekend's JVC Newport Jazz Festival webcasts are Aug. 9 and 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Performers include pianist Herbie Hancock, producer and Jazz Festival founder George Wein, guitarist Howard Alden and others.

The National Football League is launching a kickoff into new media. Reuters reported this week that NBC will stream "Sunday Night Football" online this season - the first time complete NFL games will be webcast in the U.S.
"Sunday Night Football Extra" will have the game's audio, along with multiple video streams and angles.

Here's another cool NBC Web offering worth a visit: its "Tonight Show" concert series, which features audio from performances by Al Green, Coldplay, Usher, Dwight Yoakam, Los Lonely Boys, Jewel and others.

Nickelodeon is making some of it popular series available online through iTunes.
Nick Rewind, the channel's catalog of classic kids' programs, includes "The Amanda Show," "Rugrats," "As Told By Ginger," "Hey Dude," "Rocket Power," "Clarissa Explains It All," "Rocko's Modern Life," "Wild Thornberrys" and others.
The iTunes downloads are $1.99 per episode. They can be watched on iPods, computers or TVs equipped with Apple TV.
Nickelodeon is also packaging several full season and best-of collections of some of these series, with prices ranging from $8.99 to $19.99.
People who like to send their photos to photo sharing sites along with a speech bubble for added humorous impact can do it without the need for fancy software.
Speechable, a recently launched photo sharing site, enables users to upload their photos and add speech bubbles. They can share the photos with friends by e-mail or through sites like Facebook Orkut and MySpace.
Visitors can browse the site, which is organized by newest and most popular submissions.
The site includes an instructional video on how to create the speech bubbles.
