An extraordinary cup

• It's Panama Esmerelda season once again, and these extraordinary beans are being brewed and sold at Tazza D'oro in Highland Park and Aldo in Mt. Lebanon. Aldo's beans are roasted by Jake's Java in Peters, and you can also order the beans directly by visiting www.jakesjava.net.

A toast to bottle shock

• "Bottle Shock," directed by Randall Miller and starring Alan Rickman and Bill Pullman, opens Aug. 22 at the SouthSide Works Cinema. The film is based on the 1976 Judgment of Paris, when California wines bested their French counterparts in a blind tasting and transformed the American wine industry forever. You can catch the film a day early by attending the Steeltown Entertainment Project's red carpet premiere party. Enjoy a Q&A with the films producers, Marc and Brenda Lhormer of Zin Haze Productions; a wine tasting, international tapas from Tusca Global Tapas restaurant, music, and more. Tickets are $65 per person and proceeds benefit the Steeltown Entertainment Project, a nonprofit whose mission is to create business and creative connections between Hollywood and southwestern Pennsylvania. For tickets visit www.blacktie-pittsburgh.com.
