The local farm has been named for next month's outdoor dinner put on by Outstanding in the Field, which tours the continent holding such dinners on farms, in vineyards and gardens.
The local guest chef, Justin Severino of Eleven restaurant in the Strip District, has chosen Harvest Valley Farms in Valencia, Butler County (har-vestvalleyfarms.com), to be the site of the Aug. 23 dinner. (Read more about Justin Severino.)
Guests pay $180 to wine and dine with the farmers (Art, Larry and David King) and food providers after everybody tours the fields together. It all starts at 4 p.m.
The group, which is based in Santa Cruz, Calif., is traveling by bus to hold more than 30 dinners across the country and in Canada this season, and most have sold out. For reservations, visit outstandinginthefield.com.
Here's another chance to eat out on a local farm:
From 4 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 26, Giant Eagle Market District stores are holding an "organic foodie evening" of hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, dinner and live music at Blackberry Meadows Farm in Natrona Heights. Market District chefs will use produce from the farm, which you can tour.
Cost is $125 per person and proceeds benefit the farm. Make a reservation (by Sept. 5) by calling 412-967-6161 or e-mailing RSVP@market-district.com.
