Animal Friends Black Tie & Tails Gala
Saturday, November 15, 2008

Although they were all dressed up with nowhere to (you know), dogs, cats and rabbits were some of the best-behaved guests at Animal Friends' 11th annual Black Tie & Tails gala. Guests last Saturday at the Circuit Center on the South Side were greeted by Ki, a German shepherd/husky mix, and other costumed animals available for adoption at the nonprofit agency based in Ohio Township. Tails were wagging and paddles waving during the live auction led by auctioneer Tripp Kline and Jimmy Krenn of WDVE. Dozens of paddles went up as Allegheny County Treasurer John Weinstein urged contributions toward spay and neuter efforts to combat pet overpopulation. Guests nibbled on treats from The Fluted Mushroom Catering and browsed silent auction items that included artwork, photos and other creature comforts. Later, Peter Hewlett and Cityscape entertained party animals including Bonnie Bagay, Lori Brinker, Melissa Murphy-Brown, Carole Zini, Mary Beth and Tom Buchanan, and Sally Wiggin.
