NATIONAL SUMMARY

As Tropical Storm Hanna moves off to the north and east through
tonight, rain and wind will continue to move up the Northeast
coastline. This storm, combined with a cold front pushing off to the
east, will bring some heavy rainfall. This will continue to cause
flooding problems as the system continues accelerating off to the
north and east. A ridge of high pressure will move in behind this
storm to bring some dry weather the next few days. Meanwhile, this
same high pressure area will help to guide Hurricane Ike as it moves
into the Bahamas. The storm is a major hurricane at Category 3
status. As this moves through the Bahamas Sunday and Monday and
eventually into Cuba on Tuesday, this will bring some rain and wind
to South Florida, though most of the effects through then will remain
off to the south. A storm moving into the northern Plains will bring
some showers over the Dakotas and even Minnesota and northern
Wisconsin tonight into Sunday. The majority of the West Coast will
remain dry with some slightly cooler temperatures with the stronger
onshore flow develops.

SPECIAL WEATHER

 Tropical Train Caboose:
The caboose in this tropical train, Tropical Depression Josephine,
has officially been downgraded past a tropical depression. This means
that the last of the trains of storms and hurricanes that pushed off
of Africa has come to an end. However, just because this did push off
to the west and die does not mean this is the end. Hurricane Ike
remains quite a powerful storm over the western Atlantic Ocean. This
storm will begin to impact the southern Bahamas on Sunday, and could
make a glancing blow off Cuba on Monday and Tuesday. After Ike,
though, things should be turning much more quiet in the tropics.
